Specialist  in Clinical Genetics

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Doctor in Clinical Genetics based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The post is a permanent, full time position within the service.

The Specialist Doctor grade is a new grade introduced as part of the SAS contract reform and offers an exciting opportunity to a suitably experienced doctor to further their career and deliver their specialist expertise.

The All Wales Medical Genomics Service (AWMGS) provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service to the 3 million residents of Wales.

AWMGS is a major stakeholder in the Welsh Government’s plan to create a sustainable, internationally-competitive environment for genomics. The Genomics for Precision Medicine Strategy launched in 2017 is looking to develop a service that is innovative, responsive and well-connected to the major genetics and genomics initiatives that are evolving worldwide.

The post holder will support the AWMGS team that provides clinical genetics services to the population of North Wales. They will be part of a wider team of medical staff, including Consultants, an Associate Specialist and SpRs, working closely with Genetic Counsellors, Clinical Scientists and administrative and clerical staff.

Applicants for this post should ensure they fulfil the entry criteria for appointment to this grade which includes at least 12 years' postgraduate medical work including a minimum of 6 years within the specialty at Specialty Doctor / SAS grade level or equivalent.

The Directorate encourages personal development and the post holder will be expected to take an active part in the revalidation and appraisal processes.
