CARING FOR PEOPLE - KEEPING PEOPLE WELL

We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a dynamic, inspiring, and dedicated Specialist in Special Care Dentistry to bring enthusiasm and innovation to Cardiff and Vale Health Board. The post is a permanent post 1.0 WTE working Monday – Thursday in the Community Dental Service and Friday within the University Dental Hospital in Cardiff.

The purpose of the role is to support the provision of high-quality clinical care to special care patients and to help develop services to meet the expectations described in Welsh Health Circular WHC (2019) 021 ‘The Role of the Community Dental Service and Services for Vulnerable People’.

You will be on the GDC’s Specialist list in Special Care Dentistry or within 6 months of CCST and have an interest in clinical leadership and driving change. Research experience would also be beneficial.

The Community Dental Service is a dynamic team providing the full range of community dentistry to priority groups including routine and emergency care. The post holder will be expected to lead the CDS team of clinicians and work closely with the Clinical Director. You would be working and supporting other dentists, including Specialists in Paediatric Dentistry, Senior Dental Officers, Dental Officer, Dental Therapists and Hygienists. Development of personal professional interests which match those of the Community Dental Service will be encouraged.

Our clinics are involved in clinical supervision of Dental Core Trainees Years 1 and 2 and this would suit applicants who enjoy the prospect of delivering education to other dental professionals and who are interested in developing their own clinical teaching skills.

In addition to special care and paediatric dentistry, the Community Dental Service delivers the Welsh Government oral health improvement initiatives ‘Designed to Smile’ for children and the care home programme Gwen am Byth we also undertake epidemiological surveys.

Cardiff is a vibrant, lively city with excellent cultural, entertainment and social opportunities. It has excellent transport links with the rest of the U.K. through rail, road and airport services.
