If you are looking for a new challenge and have extensive legal experience of clinical negligence claims, this opportunity is for you. Reporting to the Concerns Team Manager and working on a permanent contract, you will work within our Claims team and be responsible for the day to day management of all Redress cases and negligence claims against the UHB, which will be discharged through direct communication with senior UHB staff, external Solicitors and the Welsh Risk Pool (WRP), all within the accordance with Welsh Office Circular WHC (97) 17 and the UHB Policy and Procedures on Claims Management. The post holder will be expected to advise on cases being processed via Putting Things Right: Guidance on Dealing with Concerns effective from 1 April 2011, especially in relation to highly complex, sensitive and contentious issues arising from claims investigations. You will review, interpret and analyse a range of options in solicitors letters, make recommendations to enable decisions on the claims as to the UHBs position on liability and monitor the outcome of hearings to ensure that any negative publicity is answered appropriately by way of a statement for executive approval on behalf of the UHB for issue to the media. Financial responsibilities include the processing of expenditure incurred during the investigation of all Redress claims including settlements.
A professional legal qualification and practical knowledge of managing NHS claims is essential for this role, whilst a management qualification, practical experience of private legal practice, complaints / claims handling and court procedures are all desirable.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
