CARING FOR PEOPLE - KEEPING PEOPLE WELL

CARDIFF AND VALE

UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD

Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant Paediatric Intensivist to join the PICU team based at the University Hospital of Wales site in Cardiff.  This locum post is available for a period of three months in the first instance and is pending recruitment to a substantive position in the near future.

Cardiff’s Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) is based in the new Children’s Hospital for Wales which was opened in March 2015.  Cardiff Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has 7 beds and is the only children’s intensive care unit located within Wales and accepts children requiring intensive care from all of mid and South Wales.  Cardiff paediatric high dependency unit (HDU) has four beds and provides high dependency care to all the tertiary specialties housed in the Children’s Hospital for Wales.

Retrieval, education and audit both for the Unit and as part of the clinical network are major parts of the service and Consultants are expected to participate fully in their delivery with part of this post being based at WATCh (Wales and West Acute Transport for Children) headquarters in Bristol, delivering children from the region into both Cardiff and Bristol PICU’s.

This appointment comes at an exciting time as we prepare to become a major trauma centre.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales.  The basic salary range for this post is £79,957 per annum to £103,806 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards.

Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full.  In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
