HMP Cardiff is a category B remand prison, with an operational capacity of 800 men, located in the Centre of Cardiff with good access links. Following recent Welsh Government investment to expand the healthcare provision within HMP Cardiff, we are now seeking to appoint a Clinical Director, who has the vision and strong leadership skills to act as the figurehead for our extensive MDT.
The core team comprises of salaried GPs, registered general nurses, primary mental health nurses, substance misuse nurses and a pharmacy team, with in-reach secondary mental health, dental, optometry and sexual health services. Working with third sector partners and the Probation service, as host of the healthcare team is also key to this challenging, but exciting and varied role.
As the Clinical Lead for the service and with support from the Senior Nurse Lead for HMP Cardiff, you will be required to ensure the quality and standards of the healthcare provided to the men and to take a lead role in developing and progressing the strategic vision for the service in line with both legislative and UHB priorities. You will be required to engage with a range of community partners/organisations to ensure that all opportunities for service improvements are maximised through collaboration and co-production
In keeping with the management structures within other clinical services within the Locality, to be eligible to apply for this post, applicants must be already working clinical sessions with HMP Cardiff or be able to commit to working a minimum of one session per week as a salaried GP within the department. Job descriptions for both elements of the post are provided as part of the recruitment information. The successful applicant will be paid at salaried GP level for the clinical session (£93,474 pro rata per annum), with an enhancement provided in recognition of the Clinical Director leadership session (topped up to £10,380.60).
You will need to have strong and positive clinical leadership skills and qualities with the ability to develop a vision for the future service model for prison healthcare, while continuously improving current service performance aiming for excellence. You will need to demonstrate inclusive and effective communication skills to bring the vision to reality through effective engagement with all stakeholders both internal and external to the UHB.
You will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality care and performance against UHB and national targets. You will be approachable compassionate, with a high level of influencing and negotiating skills to champion the service for our population.
