CARING FOR PEOPLE - KEEPING PEOPLE WELL
An exciting opportunity has arisen for several new Consultant posts in Emergency Medicine based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff.
We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Emergency Physicians to join our established multi-professional team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a team committed to delivering high quality compassionate emergency care; Cardiff is also the Major Trauma Centre for Wales. We receive both primary and secondary transfers of injured adult and paediatric patients from the whole of Wales 24/7.
The Emergency Unit at University Hospital of Wales provides comprehensive emergency medicine services for adult and paediatric patients from across Cardiff and Vale in addition to a number of regionalised specialties. The department sees 140,000 new patients per annum of which 40,000 are paediatric. There is a 7-bedded resuscitation room including a dedicated paediatric resuscitation bay, 16 beds in the majors area, an ambulatory area with a high turnover of patients and a minor injuries unit which is run by Emergency Nurse Practitioners.
Our Paediatric Emergency Department is co-located to the adult department where we have a dedicated paediatric emergency medicine team, including paediatric nurse and ENP’s. The team at UHW is progressive and active in quality improvement, innovation, research and medical education. Successful applicants will be encouraged to maintain or develop an area of special interest.
The Emergency Unit has close links with Cardiff’s School of Medicine and plays a key role in undergraduate education; we also work with the postgraduate department and Health Education and Improvement Wales to ensure a good training environment for our junior doctors. There are excellent opportunities for research and academic interests.
Although these posts are full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £82,356 per annum to £106,920 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.
Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
