CARING FOR PEOPLE - KEEPING PEOPLE WELL
Applications are invited for exceptional candidates to join the Critical Care Directorate within the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board as full-time fixed term Senior Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine for 6 months in the first instance, with the potential of an extension to 12 months by mutual agreement.
It is an exciting time to join the Health Board with reconfiguration of the Critical Care footprint and planned expansion of our services in line with growing demand. Opportunities are available for appointees to develop clinical interests within the largest Critical Care Unit in Wales.
The post is based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, with some cover required at the nearby University Hospital Llandough.
The Critical Care Directorate has recently increased its funding to 35 Level 3 patients at University Hospital of Wales. There is also a new 6-bedded Post Anaesthetic Care with close links to Theatres, Cardiac and Neuro Critical Care. The case mix of patients is variable, reflecting the tertiary surgical and medical patients hosted by the Health Board in addition to demands from a busy Emergency Department.
The appointee will join a team consisting of 27 Consultants in Intensive Care who have a variety of special interests including renal medicine, trauma, research, emergency surgery, and neurosciences.
We have good links with Cardiff University and the Wales Deanery; as a teaching unit, we are driving forward a programme of medical education, international research, and innovations in intensive care. This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic individuals with the appropriate skills to join our multidisciplinary team.
Cardiff is a lively capital city with a cosmopolitan lifestyle and a rich diversity of leisure activities including the arts, music and sport. Within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the beautiful coastlines of South and West Wales, Cardiff enjoys the benefits you would expect of a modern capital city and has excellent road, rail and air links to the rest of the United Kingdom.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full.
