An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Administration Assistant to join the All Wales Medical Genomics Service based at the University Hospital of Wales. The post is a permanent, full time position within the service.
The All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS) provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service to the 3 million residents of Wales.
AWMGS is a major stakeholder in the Welsh Government’s plan to create a sustainable, internationally-competitive environment for genomics. The Genomics for Precision Medicine Strategy launched in 2017 is looking to develop a service that is innovative, responsive and well-connected to the major genetics and genomics initiatives that are evolving worldwide.
Welsh Government and the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee are investing in the All Wales Medical Genomics Service to ensure patient equity across the UK in accessing genetic testing methodologies. The investment will see an additional £10 million over the next 3 years to ensure AWMGS stays in the forefront of genomic medicine and develops the best diagnostic genetic services for patients.
Over the coming years the funding will develop our cancer and rare disease services by:
- Expanding solid tumour diagnostic services
- Enhancing and continuously expanding our haematological malignancy service to provide genetic reporting at the point of diagnosis and during treatment, to inform ongoing treatment decisions
- Developing a rapid Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) service We will be at the forefront of developing these services in the UK, working with Clinician's and patients' to identify what success looks like as a result of expanded genetic testing in Wales.
The post holder will support the Directorate Management team that provides the operational and support structure to the whole service.
They will also be part of an administration team that consists of Receptionists, Clinic Co-ordinators and Admin & Clerical personnel. A team who work alongside and in collaboration with Medical Secretaries and Family History Co-ordinators, supporting a team of Clinical Genetics staff, including Consultants, SPRs, Genetics Counsellors, Clinical Scientists and Technologists.
