The post holder will be a key member of the All Wales Medical Genomics Service (AWMGS) clinical team and will be supporting our team of across the clinical service.
The post holder with provide secretarial support to our team of Consultants, SPRs and Genetic Counsellors. Along with this they will join an extensive support network which includes Family History Co-ordinators, Clinic Co-ordinators and our general admin and clerical staff.
They will be part of the wider AWMGS team that consists of laboratory services as well has the clinical service.
Welsh Government and the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee are investing in the All Wales Medical Genomics Service to ensure patient equity across the UK in accessing genetic testing methodologies. The investment will ensure AWMGS stays in the forefront of genomic medicine and develops the best diagnostic genetic services for patients.
Over the coming years the funding will develop our cancer and rare disease services by:
- Expanding solid tumour diagnostic services
- Enhancing and continuously expanding our haematological malignancy service to provide genetic reporting at the point of diagnosis and during treatment, to inform ongoing treatment decisions
- Developing a rapid Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) service We will be at the forefront of developing these services in the UK, working with Clinician's and patients' to identify what success looks like as a result of expanded genetic testing in Wales.
